What are the sensations that are arising in our body currently? Are they familiar old sensations? Emerging novel experiences? Do you avoid paying attention to one felt sense (such as pain), or go in pursuit of another (such as ease)?
The practice of noticing sensations in our body is one of the foundational practices of mindfulness. To this end, John Kabat Zinn made the body scan a pillar of his Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction.
And yet, sensing into our bodies continues to be a struggle for many of us. It requires slowing down, curiosity for what we find, and acceptance for what is present.
Give yourself the gift of coming back to your body in this 60 minute slower practice. We flow through sensory awareness practices on the floor, and finish with some grounding movements on our feet. This is a great practice for recovery after a challenging workout.
Suggested Props: strap (dog leash/ karate belt), blocks or stable chair. yoga mat, blanket or towel
