Strength Training is important for all of us!
This class will consist of all standing single leg activities so make sure to have a stable chair nearby. Sometimes when we are working on one leg the goal is to practice balance, other times (such as this class) the goal is to emphasis strength of that side. So for this class I do want you to be holding on most of the time. Holding on should allow you to get lower or lift higher really allowing the specific muscle group to work harder and get stronger!
To be as Parkinson's specific as possible, we want to focus more on functional strengthening than on general weights or machines.
We also want to focus more on strengthening the extensor muscles, than the flexors! We also want to incorporate posture, balance and all the good stuff into all the forms of exercise we do. Instead of you trying to figure all of this out, we designed a class just for you!
Remember, safety first! Modify activities as needed! Use support for anything in standing as needed, use the chair to get up and down from the ground, take your time and skip or modify activities if you need it!
Equipment needed:
-Sturdy Chair
-Yoga Mat!
-Hand Towel
-Light Hand Weights (1-3lbs) or something similar from around the house!
-Water bottle!
-A great attitude
-Hard work ;)
